Many types of algae exist in ponds and koi tanks, growing rapidly under sunlight, warm temperatures, and excess nutrients (phosphorus, nitrogen). During nutrient-rich seasons, algae can bloom explosively.
The main harmful types for koi ponds are:
- Green algae (e.g., Spirogyra): Form stringy growth, spoiling appearance
- Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria): Produce toxins, form scums, and release foul odors
Conventional algaecides suppress photosynthesis and kill algae, but they also harm beneficial plants and fail to address nutrient overload.
That’s why Mo-Clean is different.
Instead of chemicals, it provides nutrients for beneficial microorganisms (diatoms), which outcompete harmful algae by consuming available nitrogen and phosphorus.
Diatoms, with their silica-based “glass-like” cell walls, absorb sunlight more efficiently than green or blue-green algae, giving them a natural advantage.
This creates a healthier pond ecosystem where diatoms thrive, algae blooms are suppressed, and water remains clear—without disturbing the ecological balance.

- Measure the required amount, dissolve in a small quantity of pond water, and distribute evenly across the entire pond.
- For best results, use together with beneficial bacteria products.
Dosage Guide
- Pond water 1 ton (1,000 L / approx. 264 gallons): 0.3 ml
- Pond water 10 tons (10,000 L / approx. 2,640 gallons): 3 ml
Application Frequency (depending on water temperature)
- Above 10°C (50°F): once per week
- 5–10°C (41–50°F): once every 2 weeks
- Below 5°C (41°F): once per month
